Pilates: Flatten that stomach—Get a Leaner Body
What is Pi-lah-tees?
Pilates is an exercise system based on a variety of original exercises created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's.The goal of Pilates is to improve flexibility and strength and add balance to the body. While using specialized Pilates equipment the exercises engage the core muscles(abdominals...or get better definition for the core) at all times, while working the muscles of the arms and the legs at the same time.
Our instructors combine the original exercises of Joseph Pilates with modern knowledge of biomechanics to create a total body workout that strengthens and tones, increases flexibility and improves posture. Not only are stars such as Madonna and Sharon Stone reaping the benefits of Pilates, but also professional athletes–golfer Tiger Woods, basketball star Jason Kidd, pitcher Curt Shilling, and offensive lineman Ruben Brown.
Youíll become stronger, longer, leaner, and more able to do any activity with grace and ease.
Teammates offers a variety of Pilates methods and styles as our teachers are trained by Stott, Pilates Method Alliance, Peak Pilates, Balanced Body, and/or West Coast Pilates. Our studio boasts state-of-the art Pilates equipment including the Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, Combo Chair, and Spine Correctors.
Individuals, partners and small groups can work out on the machines. Our Pilates team is also certified in mat Pilates, which we can incorporate into your workout to add variety.

Personal training: It’s all about you!
TeamMates Fitness instructors specialize in a unique form of exercise called “Functional Training.” This form of exercise trains multiple muscles at one time, taking less time to train and burning more calories.
Our trainers use large physio balls, medicine balls, bands, core boards, free weights, cable machines and their own creativity to challenge all your major muscle groups. Functional Training is a superior way to train because it keeps your heart rate up, making it a cardiovascular workout as well.
This type of training mimics the way your body moves in everyday life (standing, squatting, bending and moving side to side) and can help keep your muscles and joints injury-proof during sports. Functional Training is the perfect way to exercise if you would like to improve your golf or tennis game, change the shape of your body, or lose weight.
We can also incorporate weight training using barbells, dumbbells and weight-plated cable machines to increase strength and muscle size. Use of treadmills and bikes improves cardiovascular conditioning for a healthy heart, and stretching enhances flexibility.
Reduce Body Fat!
Metabolic or High Intensity Interval Training is one of the best methods for fat loss. Shorter, more intense intervals of exercise are followed by a short rest or lighter activity. You can increase your cardio function, muscle mass, strengthen, power, speed and aerobic activity, while melting the fat away. Interval training continues to burn calories and fat long after the training sessions ends - and that is something you won't get from longer sessions of cardio. Maximum results in minimum time!

For expectant moms
For expectant moms
personal training and Pilates is an excellent and safe form of exercise for a healthy pregnancy. It helps to strengthen your core muscles (the back and abdominals), and will improve upper body strength, making it easier for you to nurse, lift and carry your baby. Exercises are very adaptable, and can be modified as your body and ability changes.
For new moms
New mothers are anxious to get back in shape. Our programs give you a gentle way to ease back into an exercise routine, without overdoing it. A combination of personal training and Pilates will help restore abdominal strength and alleviate back pain.
For golfers
Hit the ball further and straighter, with reduced risk of injury and back pain. We focus on the primary muscles that golfers use. Personal training and Pilates for golf can improve the biomechanics needed for a great swing. You will see and feel recognizable results!
For tennis players
You will hit the ball with more accuracy and move around the court, with reduced risk of injury and back pain. Personal training and Pilates for tennis can improve the biomechanics needed for a great weight shift, stronger forehand and backhands. Youíll feel lighter and more graceful on the court.

Resistance Stretching : Talk about stretch!
Resistance Stretching is a revolutionary technique that utilizes a person's own resistance in the strengthening and stretching of the muscles.
The individual "resists" against the movement of the trainer. When one muscle contracts the opposite muscle relaxes or “stretches”. The same applies when one muscle is stretched, the opposite muscle must contract.
This technique can not only increase flexibility and muscular performance, but it will also help heal old injuries and prevent future ones.
The discovery behind Resistance Stretching is that to truly stretch a muscle, you must CONTRACT the muscle throughout the entire range of motion. What this method does is COMBINE strength training and flexibility training. To strength train a muscle, you start where the muscle is as long as possible, contract the muscle and take it to where it is as short as possible.
BUT, to resistance stretch this muscle you would do the opposite. Start where the muscle is as short as possible and contract the muscle while you take it to where it is as long as possible. The trick here is that it takes TWICE as much force to stretch the muscle as to strengthen the muscle. So if you can do a bicep curl with 50 pounds, then it would actually take 100 pounds to stretch the bicep! Results can include:
Results can include:
- Increased overall strength and flexibility
- Reduced pain from chronic knee degeneration
- Increased range of motion in the shoulder joint
- Increased distance of your golf drive from increased range of motion in the hips and core
- Improved tennis serve and shot from increased range of motion in the hips and core
- Improved performance in any sport or activity
